For the third year in a row, the Voices of the South, a local men’s barbershop chorus, will return to the Lyric Theatre in downtown Birmingham to entertain residents with a Christmas concert.

“It’s a brand new show,” said Dennis Jones, vice president of marketing and public relations for the group.

This year’s show will again be 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Lyric. Ticket prices vary from $15 to $35 and are selling fast on ticketmaster.com, Jones said.

There will be three choruses performing. In addition to the Voices of the South, the female Harmony Hills Chorus and the Mountain Brook High School Chamber Choir will perform.

Voices of the South was the first group to perform on stage at the Lyric when it reopened three years ago, Jones said.

“It’s the most wonderful experience I’ve ever had,” Jones said, adding that the theatre is a great, intimate venue for the group’s shows.

Putting on the performance for area residents is a lot of work, Jones said.

“It’s a major undertaking,” Jones said. “... We are preparing a whole bunch of new songs.”

In addition to the whole chorus performing, Jones said three quartets from Voices of the South will perform. While the show will mostly be Christmas music, Jones said the group will also perform some songs from their regular routine.

“It’s going to be a good show,” Jones said.

The group practices at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills at 7 p.m. on most Monday nights, and Jones said they’re always looking for new members. Go to voicesofthesouth.com for more information.
