Tee It Up Fore Life Golf Tournament tops $100,000

The American Cancer Society’s Tee It Up Fore Life Golf Tournament was held June 13 at Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills. It’s the premier golfing event for the American Cancer Society.

This year, more than 30 teams participated and raised more than $100,000. A silent auction at the tourney included many trips to popular vacation destinations, and one auction winner will be going to the University of Alabama’s opening game this season in Texas via private plane.

Other auction items included an autographed Blake Shelton guitar, a Master’s golf package, a custom-made blazer and a Yeti cooler.

The 2016 Tee It Up Fore Life honoree was Mike Mullen and Circulogene Theranostics. President and CEO Mike Mullen knows that in order to treat cancer patients and to find a cure, people have to work together.

Mullen graciously partnered with the American Cancer Society through the Tee it Up Fore Life golf tournament to help fund the mission of the American Cancer Society and its groundbreaking research programs and community services.

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of 2.5 million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the society’s efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the U.S. since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress nearly 14 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year. The society is finding cures as the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air and more. For more information, to get help, or to join the fight, call anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
