Southern Museum of Flight art contest open to local students

by

Jefferson County students are encouraged to submit their artwork for the Southern Museum of Flight’s upcoming art exhibition.

The WWII Tuskegee Airmen B-25 plane Bravery and Honor has returned to Alabama, and the student art exhibition will be a way to celebrate the plane’s return. The plane was obtained from the Chennault Aviation Museum in Louisiana, and it will be part of the museum’s existing Tuskegee display.

Students from kindergarten through 12th grade can submit their artwork, which should be based on the theme of “Bravery and Honor.” The deadline is Feb. 19.

Nine prizes will be awarded to top finalists in three categories — kindergarten through third grade, fourth through seventh grade and eighth through 12th grade. Finalists will also be invited to a reception honoring the B-25 homecoming on Feb. 26.

Winning entries will be on the Southern Museum of Flight’s website and displayed at the museum through March 25.

Teachers can request and information packet from the Southern Museum of Flight. The packet includes contest rules, an entry form, award descriptions and a teacher resource guide about the Tuskegee Airmen.
