Library program to feature Mayor Curry

Those interested in hearing more about Vestavia Mayor Ashley Curry’s previous career as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation will have that opportunity at the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest in late September.

On Thursday, Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m., Curry will talk in the library’s community room as part of the monthly program presented by the Friends of the Library, a nonprofit organization that supports the library.

Curry will discuss his background with the FBI, as well as the Community Spaces Plan, Friends of the Library President Andi Preston said.

The organization recently donated $40,000 to the makerspace project in the library, which will provide a space for the community to learn, create, invent and design different types of projects. The organization also operates the Friends of the Library Bookstore and holds meetings monthly in the community room.

Everyone is welcome to come to the meetings. The organization charges dues of $20 for individuals and $30 for couples. Donations are also accepted.

Upcoming events at the program include: a speaker from the Alabama Wildlife Center on Oct. 25 and storyteller Dolores Hydock on Nov. 15.

Before Curry speaks at the event, a social hour will be held from 10-10:30 a.m.
