UPDATE: The Vestavia Hills Christmas Parade has been cancelled due to the threat of rain, and there is no scheduled makeup day.

Hundreds of people will get in the holiday spirit at Vestavia Hills' annual Christmas parade this month.

The parade will be Sunday, Dec. 9, from 2-4 p.m. It brings together a number of Vestavia community groups to show off their holiday cheer and decorate floats, wagons, golf carts and more.

Scout troops, local sports teams, clubs, businesses and antique car owners are invited to participate in the parade.

The route travels from the Liberty Park Sports Complex’s softball parking lot to Alston Meadows neighborhood via Liberty Parkway. At Alston Meadows from roughly 1:30-4 p.m., there is a Christmas Celebration for families to enjoy booths from local merchants, activities for children and a visit with Santa Claus.

Groups interested in participating in the parade must register by Dec. 1 at the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce website, vestaviahills.org. The rules of the parade state that people walking in the parade can hand candy to people on the sidelines, but floats are not allowed to throw candy or other large or hard objects to the crowds. Merchants interested in having a booth at Alston Meadows can also register on the chamber website.

Details and rules for participation are included in the registration forms.

If inclement weather arises that day, news about the parade will be communicated on the Facebook pages for the city of Vestavia Hills, the chamber and the Holiday in the Hills page. There is no scheduled makeup day for the parade if it is canceled.
