Leadership Vestavia Hills will honor outstanding local citizens at the upcoming 26th annual Community Leadership Award Banquet (formerly Citizen of the Year).

Anne Boston will be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her longtime dedication to Vestavia Hills. A past president of the Vestavia Hills Historical Society, Boston has chaired the Vestavia Hills Beautification Board for six years and has given untold hours to the community through volunteer work with senior transportation and the Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest, as well as numerous ad hoc committees.

Husband and wife team Drs. Julian Maha and Michele Kong, founders of the nonprofit organization KultureCity, will be honored with the 2016 Distinguished Citizen Award. KultureCity was founded in Vestavia Hills in 2013 with the mission to create a world where all individuals with autism and their families are accepted and treated equally. To date, KultureCity has helped more than 15,000 people with its programs.

"It is important to recognize those citizens who make the extra effort to improve the quality of life in Vestavia Hills and beyond," said Penny Llewelyn, event chair. "By celebrating the work of these individuals, not only do we celebrate them, but we encourage others to participate in their community as well."

The Leadership Vestavia Hills Community Leader of the Year program recognizes and celebrates exceptional members of our community who have invested substantial efforts to improve the quality of life for those throughout our community and beyond.

"This event is a reflection of our purpose as an organization: to encourage networking relationships and educational experiences that empower our graduates to make a positive difference in our community," said Rebecca Olsen, Leadership Vestavia Hills president.

The banquet is open to the public and will take place March 3 at 6 p.m. at the Vestavia Hills Country Club. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased online at http://leadershipvestaviahills.com/ or at the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce.
