High school juniors interested in participating in this year’s Distinguished Young Women of Jefferson County Program can begin submitting their applications.

The program, formerly Jefferson County’s Junior Miss, is accepting applications from high school girls graduating in 2017 who live in Jefferson County. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2016.

There is no entry fee to participate, and girls will compete in the categories of fitness, self expression, interview, scholastics and talent. Participants are eligible for various scholarships, ranging from $12,000 to $60,000. During last year’s program, participants were awarded more than $14,000 in cash-tuition scholarships in addition to college granted scholarships from Troy University, Auburn University, The University of Alabama and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

The Distinguished Young Women of Jefferson County Program will be held on July 29 and July 30 at Mountain Brook High School.
