Employees of the city of Vestavia Hills earned management training certificates after voluntarily taking classes through the Jefferson County Personnel Board Training and Organizational Development Department.

The classes are available to the more than 7,000 merit system employees within the 23 jurisdictions that fall within the jurisdiction of the Jefferson County Personnel Board (PBJC). The PBJC Training and Organizational Development Department led by Pete Blank offers merit system employees access to classes to positively affect their careers and to exceed expectations of citizens they serve.

The PBJC’s training/certificate classes include training in management, leadership, human resource/employment issues, computer software, and effective customer service-all with a public servant focus.

The PBJC Training and Organizational Development Department primarily offers four certificate programs to merit system employees. They are leading people certificate; managing processes certificate; professional development certificate; and a newly added public servant certificate that replaced the former technical development certificate. When all four certificates are obtained, the employee is awarded the 360 Degree Leader Award.

The PBJC also offers advanced leadership training for those with supervisory and leadership experience. This training lasts throughout the year and convenes at different venues for a robust training experience. The PBJC formally calls this program MPACT standing for Managers Preparing to Accomplish Change Today.

Four Vestavia merit system employees received awards at the graduation on Sept. 21:

Jason Burnett, Vestavia Hills Public Works, MPACT recipient

Captain Shane Ware, Vestavia Hills Police Department, MPACT recipient

Angela Wilson, Vestavia Hills Fire Department, Technical Development Certificate recipient

Office Curtis Peacock, Vestavia Hills Police Department, Leading People Certificate, Managing Processes Certificate and Professional Development Certificate recipient
