The Vestavia Hills annual city Christmas tree lighting is coming up just after Thanksgiving this year.

The festival will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. and the event starting shortly before that, according to Katie Woodruff from the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce.

The tree lighting will take place on the front lawn of City Hall, 1032 Montgomery Highway, if weather permits. Inside City Hall, there will be performances from Vestavia Hills City Schools choir and dance students, plus the chance to take pictures with Santa Claus. The Vestavia Hills High School Rockettes and elementary choirs have performed in previous years.

The Tree Lighting Festival usually includes hot chocolate, cookies and other holiday snacks and crafts for the whole family to enjoy. Woodruff said several chamber members will set up booths at the event to offer giveaways and games.

The festival will also include a drawing for the winner of Shop Dine Play Bingo.

Shoppers can pick up a bingo card from the chamber office or print their own beginning Nov. 1 and mark off a participating merchant’s name from the card when they make a purchase at that store throughout the month. Each completed vertical, horizontal or diagonal line on the bingo card — as well as a completed card — counts as one entry in the prize drawing.

Envelopes and bingo cards must be turned in to the chamber office by Nov. 26 to participate in the drawing. The prizes include gifts from local merchants and a grand prize of four park hopper one-day passes for Walt Disney World.

This festival will be followed by the annual Breakfast with Santa and the Liberty Park Christmas Parade in December.

The tree lighting is free to attend.
