The Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce is planning to give back to the community through it's second-annual Helping Hands in the Hills community service event on Sept. 10, and is currently on the hunt for volunteers.

Chamber Office Manager Katie Geurin said the team, which is partnering with the City of Vestavia Hills for the project, is hoping to out-do last year's volunteer turn out with even more participation last year.

"We were incredibly blessed last year to have more than 300 volunteers serving throughout the city, and this year our hope is to have even more volunteers to serve even more residents," Geurin said in an email to Chamber members Friday.

Volunteers will assist Vestavia's senior, disabled and other in-need citizens with various yard work and projects.

The day of service will kick off at Wald Park Pool and breakfast will be provided before volunteers split up to lend a hand.

The deadline to register as a volunteer is Wednesday, Aug. 10 to allow the Chamber to organize and assign projects, as well as other logistics.

Volunteers under the age of 19 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and all under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Children below middle-school age must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian if they wish to participate.

Those interested in forming a volunteer team or obtaining a waiver can find the forms on the chamber's website.
