In keeping with tradition, the Assistance League of Birmingham will be hosting their annual Little Black Dress Luncheon this month.

The luncheon, which serves as a community event and a fundraiser for the Assistance League, features holiday shopping with local vendors, a lunch and a fashion show. The clothes for this year’s fashion show will be provided by Town and Country, and luncheon co-chair Melinda Thornbury said there will be 10 models. Molly Bloetscher serves as the other co-chair.

The event, which is in its ninth year, helps spread awareness about the Assistance League while raising funds to support their mission of helping improve lives of children in the Birmingham metro area, as well as other philanthropic endeavors.

Thornbury said the League helps clothe about 1,700 underprivileged school children and provides them with hygiene kits through Operation School Bell. Operation Literacy is a program that tutors children in reading and provides inexpensive books through their “book nook” at the League, and PrimeTime Treasures is the nonprofit gift shop that features items handmade by senior citizens in Alabama.

The Little Black Dress Luncheon is scheduled for Nov. 7 at a country club in the Birmingham area, and past events have been held at a club in Vestavia Hills. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Assistance League of Birmingham at 870-5555 or go to assistanceleaguebhm.org.
