The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama’s annual golf tournament continued this year to help raise money for research.

This year’s event was the 21st annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer golf tournament, and it helped raise more than $106,000 for breast cancer research in Alabama. The tournament took place at Old Overton Club on May 16 and was presented by Tameron Honda and Hyundai.

The golf tournament started in 1996 when BCRFA co-founders Dolly O’Neal and Bruce Sokol came together with a goal to fund and expand breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“We’re excited to announce that this year’s Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament raised over $106,000 for breast cancer research here in Alabama,” said Beth Bradner Davis, Executive Director of the BCRFA. “The BCRFA takes a comprehensive approach to battling breast cancer through support of collaborative and innovative research to help diagnose, treat, prevent and eradicate the disease. All of the funds raised throughout the year remain in Alabama, supporting local research, which in turn makes a national impact.”

Team Merrill Lynch was awarded the first place gross award, team WBRC Fox 6 won first place net, team Tameron Honda won second place net and team Sirote & Permutt received third place net.

“We are proud to be a partner with the BCRFA on this event, and throughout the year, to help fund the research that will save lives,” said Rob Gallik, general manager for Tameron Honda.
