Current Vestavia Hills Mayor Butch Zaragoza is seeking to keep his seat as he runs for re-election this year.

Zaragoza has been Mayor since 2008, and prior to that served in the Vestavia Hills Fire Department for 39 years.

He said the issues his campaign is focusing on will continue the work he and the Council have done over the last eight years, including continued growth and economic development, improving the city's athletic facilities and parks and working to make sure the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Education are "on board" with where the city is heading.

"I want us to continue to listen to our citizens and work toward what they're asking of us," he said.

Zaragoza and his wife of 47 years, Diane, live in the Cahaba Heights area, and have lived in the city of Vestavia Hills for 10 years, though the mayor said he has lived on the mountain for the majority of his life. The couple has twins, 46, and four grandchildren.

In addition to being mayor, Zaragoza has been involved with Leadership Vestavia Hills, is a trustee for the Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the library and parks and recreation boards and is the chairman of the Jefferson County EMA committee. He also has an associate's degree from Jefferson State Community College.

More information about Zaragoza's re-election campaign can be found on the campaign's Facebook page.

Former FBI agent and long-time Vestavia Hills resident Ashley Curry is also running for Mayor.
