Vestavia Hills resident dies following biking accident

A Vestavia Hills resident died following a traffic collision in Gulf Shores Wednesday morning.

John Richard Vos, 73, and his wife Augusta Forbes Vos, 50, were struck by a car on May 27. John  was transported to Baptist Hospital, where he later died. Augusta was also seriously injured and transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center. She has since undergone surgery and is expected to recover from her injuries.

The driver of the car, 21-year-old Pensacola, Florida resident Blake Ashton Foote, remained at the scene and has cooperated with Gulf Shores Police during the investigation. No evidence of alcohol or drug use was reported. 

The speed limit on County Road 2, where the accident occurred, is 35 mph. Police are still investigating the incident.
