Two suspects were arrested early Friday morning following a brief car chase with Vestavia Hills Police Department.

Friday around 4 a.m., a VHPD officer was patrolling Cahaba Heights when he saw a “vehicle driving in an erratic manner” on Bearden Lane, according to a VHPD Facebook post.

The officer turn on his emergency lights and attempted to pull the driver over, and the vehicle reportedly fled. The vehicle stopped on Cahaba Drive, and the driver fled into nearby woods.

The passenger of the vehicle also attempted to run into the woods but was captured by the VHPD officer, according to the post.

Mountain Brook Police Department and VHPD established a perimeter and used a Vestavia Hills tracking K-9 to find the driver. After he was located, he was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

The car the suspects were driving was stolen out of Anniston, according to police, and both occupants of the vehicle had outstanding felony warrants.

The driver was identified as Talladega resident John Kendall Mitchell, 39, and the passenger was identified as Anniston resident Joy Renae Moreland, 40. Both were charged with first degree receiving stolen property and misdemeanor attempting to elude. Bond for each suspect was set at $10,300.
