Two suspects apprehended after stolen vehicle pursuit

At approximately 10:45 a.m., VHPD responded to a report of a UBEV (Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle) at the Vestavia City Center. The victim provided us a tag number and vehicle description. The tag indicated that the vehicle had been stolen. Available personnel saturated the area and spotted the suspect vehicle at/near the 1100 block of Montgomery Highway.

Upon attempting to stop the vehicle it became apparent that a second vehicle was involved as well, resulting in simultaneous pursuits.

The initial suspect vehicle abruptly turned off Montgomery Highway into the Central Elementary School parking lot and the two suspects bailed from the vehicle, fleeing on foot into the wooded area behind the school. The school was immediately placed in lockdown for the safety of those on campus. Subsequent lockdowns occurred at both Pizitz Middle School and VHHS in response to tips or sightings of the suspects.

Thanks to tips from the community, both suspects that fled from the vehicle at Central Elementary were apprehended. Preliminary indications are that both suspects are juveniles and if so, their personal information will not be released.

The second pursuit that entered into the City of Homewood, was terminated due to level of danger/hazard. No arrests were made in this pursuit. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen from the 1100 block of Montgomery Highway and subsequently has been recovered unoccupied, in Birmingham, by Birmingham PD.

The investigation is on-going and VHPD will provide further information as it becomes warranted or available
