Three men were recently arrested and charged with trafficking in stolen identities and fraudulent use of credit cards.

The arrest was made following an investigation by the Financial Crimes Task Force, a task force created by District Attorney Brandon Falls and the Birmingham Division of the Secret Service. The task force includes investigators from the District Attorney’s Office and Vestavia Hills Police Department and is geared toward battling an increase in financial crimes in Jefferson County.

On May 16, the task force began working with Regions Bank to track down three Cuban males, Casanova Alay, Salazar Armian and Alexander Vizcaya. The suspects allegedly stole the identity of many Jefferson and Shelby County residents and made thousands of dollars in fraudulent charges. Stolen information was reportedly used to create fraudulent credit cards that were then used to purchase gift cards, electronic devices, clothing and cigarettes, according to a VHPD Facebook post.

The three suspects were transferred to Jefferson County Jail, and bond for each suspect is $250,000, according to VHPD.
