Tonight, City Manager Jeff Downes announced that Sprouts Farmers Market will be opening in the space formerly occupied by Ruby Tuesday and Pizza Hut at 1099 Montgomery Highway. Donna Egan, a spokesperson for Sprouts, confirmed the store has signed a lease for this location.

In October, America's First Federal Credit Union closed on the purchase of the former library property located at 1112 Montgomery Highway. Proceeds from that sale are being used for a development incentive agreement with GBT for a retail shopping center planned for the 3.4 acres of property across the street at 1099 Montgomery Highway. GBT is one of the largest commercial retail developers in the nation and is based out of Brentwood, Tenn.

Downes has said that the retail shopping center, once fully developed, would help the entire community of Vestavia Hills by generating more than $500,000 in sales tax revenue.

Based out of Arizona, Sprouts Farmers Market has 175 locations in 10 states and provides multiple healthy-living resources such as recipes, how-to videos and wellness webinars. The store offers fresh fruits and vegetables, wholesome grains, nuts and sweets, as well as a full-service deli and meat and seafood counters that offer homemade burgers and sausage.

Downes said the store's Vestavia Hills location is estimated to open sometime in 2016. For more information about Sprouts Farmers Market, visit sprouts.com.
