Planning and Zoning holds short meeting

There were only two items on the agenda for the planning and zoning commission on Aug. 9, the first meeting led by new chairwoman Erica Barnes.

The commission approved a final plat for Bottcher’s subdivision, where owner Kelly Bottcher is subdividing one lot into two. The plat is zoned Vestavia Hills R-2.

The commission also approved the rezoning of a home at 2401 Mountain Vista Drive, where the owner was requesting rezoning from Jefferson County E-2 to Vestavia Hills R1. The home, along with other homes in the area, was annexed into Vestavia decades ago, but, according to two residents at the meeting, were never rezoned into the city. The commission told residents rezoning wasn’t absolutely necessary unless they were doing work on the home which required a city permit.
