The Vestavia Hills City Council recognized November as Hospice and Palliative Care Month at its Nov. 9 meeting.

Mayor Butch Zaragoza offered the proclamation, which was read by City Manager Jeff Downes, and recognized representatives from Affinity Hospice.

Zaragoza said that the city wanted to support what is already a nationally recognized awareness month.

“Any time that we can promote the help that hospice gives in our community … we want to make people aware of all that’s going on in this community because it affects us all,” he said.

The council heard updates from Downes, including the sale of the back parcel of Patchwork Farms to Resort Lifestyle Communities, which will begin construction immediately.

Downes also showed the council the 2014-2015 year-to-date comparisons of property and pot-hole complaint resolutions after the installation of the Action Center last year, as well as the new “Welcome” signs being installed around the city.
