John Henley, who currently holds Place 1 on the Vestavia Hills City Council, officially qualified last week for his re-election bid in the August 23 vote.

Henley has served on the Council since the last election in 2012, and is one of four incumbents running for re-election.

"There have been many great things which have occurred in Vestavia Hills in the last four years," Henley said in a press-release. "While I am excited about the last four years, I am even more excited about what the future of our city holds, not only in the next four years, but for many more to come."

Henley has been an insurance agent with State Farm in Vestavia for six years, and has lived in the city for 14. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Mercer University, and  an MBA from Troy University.

His civic involvement includes several years with the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, including being named Ambassador of the Year; being part of the Leadership Vestavia Hills class of 2006; involvement with St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church and a charter member, board member and past president of the Vestavia Hills Sunrise Rotary Club.

Henley and his wife Gina have been married for 22 years and have two daughters: Katherine, who graduated from Vestavia Hills High School in May and who will be a freshman at Ole Miss this fall, and Lily, who is a rising junior at VHHS.
