Community responds to death of slain delivery driver

by

On Sunday, Dec. 21, Cahaba Heights Domino's delivery driver Najeh Masaeid was found dead at the District at the Summit apartments. He was 63 years old and both a husband and father.

Masaeid's daughter, Jordan Hosey, created an online fundraising site to help the family cover important costs. On the site, she shared that her father moved to America 20 years to fulfill the American Dream. He had worked for Domino's Pizza for 15 years at the time of his death.

Comments on the "What's Happening in Vestavia" Facebook page revealed that Masaeid was always friendly and often knew many of his customers by name.

As of Tuesday, Dec. 23, more than 1,500 people have made donations to the fundraising site totaling $61,606, more than doubling the $25,000 goal.

"I want to thank everyone for their kind and supportive emails, phone calls, texts and so on. We are just mourning a loss that we didn't expect," wrote Hosey. "I couldn't dream of a better community of such selfless acts that resulted from a selfish one."

The Cahaba Heights Domino's released a statement Monday that it will be contributing to the family from its Pizza Partners Foundation and will offer a reward for information about Masaeid's death. Next Monday, Dec. 29, all sales proceeds at the Domino's will benefit Masaeid's family.

A candlelight service will be held in honor of Masaeid on Thursday, Dec. 25 at 5 p.m. at the Cahaba Heights Domino's where he was an employee.

Masaeid's Memorial Fund page can be accessed here.
