Whatever your plans are this New Year’s Eve, make sure they don’t include fireworks.

Vestavia Hills’s municipal code prohibits individuals from having, keeping, storing, using, selling or handling any consumer fireworks within the city. Consumer fireworks are defined as “any small fireworks device containing restricted amounts of pyrotechnic composition, designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion” in Sec. 6-17 of the municipal code.

Municipal code also states that the police chief, Dan Rary, can issue a permit for a fireworks show in public parks or other open places within the city. These permits are issued upon due application.
