With July 4 just around the corner, the City of Vestavia Hills Fire Marshal's office wanted to remind residents that fireworks are prohibited in the city of Vestavia Hills.

Vestavia Hills’s municipal code prohibits individuals from having, keeping, storing, using, selling or handling any consumer fireworks within the city. Consumer fireworks are defined as “any small fireworks device containing restricted amounts of pyrotechnic composition, designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion” in Sec. 6-17 of the municipal code.

"Fireworks pose a serious fire hazard to property and present a safety risk to those who use them," said the post on the Vestavia Hills Fire Department Facebook page. "Every year the Vestavia Hills Fire Department responds to fireworks-related fires and injuries. The holiday related fires and injuries are preventable."

Any fireworks-related fires or injuries should be reported to 911, the post continued, and fireworks violations can be reported to the Vestavia Hills Police Department.

More information on the municipal code can be found here.
