Investigators are now entering a Dolly Ridge Road home to investigate the cause of a late night, early morning fire, said Vestavia Hills Fire Department Lt. Ryan Farrell.

The fire department received a call about a structure fire in the 2500 block of Dolly Ridge Road Monday night around 11:41 p.m. When the first fire engine arrived on scene, Farrell said there was heavy fire coming from an attached garage.

“They [firefighters] held the fire mostly to that attached garage and had heavy fire damage to that garage and some smoke, fire and water damage to the main part of the house,” he said.

Investigators entered the home Tuesday morning to look at potential causes of the fire, and Farrell said while it originated from the direction of the garage, they are unsure if the fire originated inside or outside of the garage.

There were four engine companies on scene, including a ladder company, two rescue units and a battalion chief, Farrell said. One of the homeowners sustained a minor injury while escaping the fire and was transferred to the hospital for treatment.

The fire also temporarily shut down Dolly Ridge Road, which Farrell said is standard due to the amount of equipment required when fighting a fire.

“Once we lay a supply line from a hydrant, the road is essentially impassible,” he said.

The road was closed for about two hours.

“Our crews did what they’re trained to do,” Farrell said. “They had a lot of fire and got right to work, established a plan of action ad put all our resources to work to protect lives and property.”
