Parents looking to avoid lines at the mall to meet Santa can catch him at a Vestavia Hills residence this Christmas season.

Amy Ferguson and her husband Chris are continuing a neighborhood tradition of a “drive-thru Santa,” decorating their home at 401 Fernwood Drive behind the Vestavia Chick-fil-A each year to entertain families in the city.

This year, the event is scheduled for Dec. 22 and 23 from 6 to 8 p.m., weather permitting, Amy Ferguson said. Families will get in a carpool line and drive through the area, decked out in Christmas lights, where Santa will stop and talk to children in the car before they drive on to meet Frosty, Rudolph and dancing elves in costume. Children will also receive candy canes, Ferguson said.

Ferguson said the tradition started years ago by a neighbor and her family took it over in 2017.
