Election Update: July 14

On Aug. 23, Vestavia voters will have the chance to elect their 2016-2020 city council members and mayor. Vestavia Voice will provide weekly recaps each week leading up to the election, so you can easily keep up with everything you need to know before you vote.


Here’s Vestavia’s latest:

- There are 11 People Qualified as of July 14:

- Candidate qualifying continues until next Tuesday, July 19th at 5 p.m.

- Absentee ballots should arrive around July 26, but applications can be sent ahead of time to the following address*:

          City Clerk's Office

          Attn. Rebecca Leavings

          1032 Montgomery Highway

          Vestavia Hills, AL 35216

- Ballots can be found at alabamavotes.gov

* This address was printed incorrectly in the Election Guide. All absentee ballot business must be conducted with the above address.

- The Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce is hosting two candidate forums, one at its regular August 9 meeting for members and guests, and one on August 15th at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall that is free and open to the public.


General information:

-  Official qualifying for mayoral and council candidates began Tuesday, July 5 and lasts until July 19. The Election Guide also explains how to qualify as a candidate.

- Voters must register by Aug. 8 and regular absentee ballots must be applied for by Aug. 18.

- A runoff election, should it be required, will be held Oct. 4. Elected officials will take office Nov. 7
