Vestavia Hills residents took to the polls Tuesday to decide who will lead the city for the next four years, and a slew of new faces are set to be seen at meetings come November.

Though the tallies will not be canvassed until Tuesday, Aug. 30, four of the five races showed a clear winner Tuesday night, with Place-3 ending in a runoff between Steve Ammons and Paul Head that will take place on Oct. 4.

With a runoff for Place-3 and the defeat of Mayor Butch Zaragoza and Place-1 Councilor John Henley, George Pierce was the only incumbent with a clear victory.

Here are the results based on un-canvassed vote tallies (winners in Bold):

Pierce was on-site at City Hall with his children and grandchildren to see the results of the election, and he said he is looking forward to working with the new council, and is proud of Vestavia residents for turning out to vote.

"I'm excited," he said, "I'm humbled by the trust of our citizens. I'm humbled by the turnout for voting, it shows our citizens want to be involved. We need to listen to them."

The runoff for Place-3 will take place on Oct. 4, and the new council will take office on Nov. 8. Election officials and the city council will meet at noon on Aug. 30 in the Executive Conference Room at City Hall to officially canvass the results, and that meeting is open to the public.
