During a regular April meeting, the Vestavia Hills City Council authorized an agreement with ALDOT to repair and resurface U.S. 31. The area to be repaired begins 0.15 miles north of Interstate 65 and runs 0.05 miles north of Shades Crest Road.

The project will include resurfacing, loop detectors, permanent traffic stripes, guardrail end anchors and bridge rail retrofit. Bidding could begin as early as this June, Downes said.

During the meeting, Mayor Butch Zaragoza announced that over the past nine business days, 349 transactions took place at City Hall for tag renewals.
