Council discusses annexations, National Senior Citizens Day

During the Aug. 10 meeting, the city council approved the annexation of two properties into Vestavia Hills. One property is located at 2437 Rocky Ridge Road in Buckhead and is owned by Michael and Caroline Allen. The other property is located at 3609 Settlers Lane in Westbrook Estates and owned by Joseph D. West.

In other news, City Manager Jeff Downes read a proclamation declaring Aug. 21, National Senior Citizens Day. There will be a special event held that Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Lodge.

Downes also gave the council an update on a city project. The Cahaba Heights road project is two weeks behind schedule due to weather. The project will improve parking and accesss to Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights.

"Out of an abundance of caution and to help with traffic, we will have extra personnel placed at the elementary school," said Downes.
