City to host candidates workshop

The City of Vestavia Hills will host a workshop for those interested in running for Mayor or City Council next Wednesday, March 16 at City Hall.

The workshop, sponsored by the City Clerk’s Office, will cover information about running for public office, including dates, deadlines and necessary paperwork.

City Clerk Rebecca Leavings said those interested do not need to bring anything to the meeting, as it is just informational, but that she will be distributing several pieces of paperwork and all of the necessary information about becoming a candidate.

Qualification for municipal elections will take place from Tuesday, July 5 at 8 a.m. until Tuesday, July 19 at 5 p.m. The elections will occur on Tuesday, Aug. 23, with any necessary runoffs taking place on Oct. 4.

The new Mayor and City Council will take office Monday, Nov. 7.
