City Manager Jeff Downes led a public involvement meeting Friday regarding the future of Patchwork Nature Park at Patchwork Farms.

Downes and landscape architect Dave Giddens explained proposed plans for the park and took questions from citizens in attendance.

“We want input,” Downes said.

The park, which will be around 8.49 acres, will be a passive park with multiple trails. Downes and Giddens said that there is the possibility in the future for small picnic pavilions and other basic amenities.

“It’s pretty simple,” Giddens said, “the idea is to have a nice place where you can walk, have a trail.”

Citizens asked questions about aspects of the park, including its proximity to surrounding houses and parts of the Patchwork Farms development.

Among the concerns were questions about flooding, something Downes said the city recognizes. Downes said the city completed a flood impact study and will take that data into account when planning the park.

Downes invited those present to fill out forms detailing their opinions, concerns and ideas for the park, and invited them to any public hearings that may occur.

At the Monday, Jan. 25 City Council meeting, the Council will consider a resolution to apply for an ADECA grant to fund part of the park.
