During the July 13 council meeting, the city received an $11,084 donation from the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce Foundation that will go towards new signage to be placed around the city.

The presentation was given by Linda Parker, Chair of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The new signs will include a monument sign at the city’s Highway 31 entrance and pole signs noting different areas of the city such as Cahaba Heights or Rocky Ridge. Each sign will include the new city logo.

Downes said installation should be complete before September and the total cost of the sign project is $50,000.

"It's a pleasure to be working with the Chamber on this project and we are excited to move forward," said Mayor Butch Zaragoza.

Zaragoza also discussed plans for a future entertainment district in the Rocky Ridge area. He said the city is currently talking with business owners and in the process of coming up with events to be held within the district.

“We are currently laying out borders and looking at boundaries,” Zaragoza said. “We hope to move forward with establishing an ordinance."
