Bocce ball tournament held in honor of Vestavia resident

by

The Birmingham Bar Foundation (BBF) is holding its seventh annual bocce ball tournament in October.

The tournament is called the Michael D. Freeman Championship, named after late Vestavia Hills resident Michael Freeman. During his lifetime, Freeman aimed to help those who were underserved and created the tournament to help promote access to justice.

The tournament will be Oct. 22 at the Kress Building in downtown Birmingham. In addition to the bocce ball tournament, there will be a chili cook-off where 10 teams of two will compete for the Birmingham Bar’s Best Chili title and a People’s Choice Award.

Registration for a bocce ball team of four is $600, and registration for the chili cook-off is $100. Tickets to attend are $25, or $15 for law students.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Legal Aid Society of Birmingham and the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program.
