Arrest made in Masaeid murder case

On Tuesday, the Birmingham Police Department announced an arrest in connection with the Dec. 21 murder of Najeh Masaeid, a delivery driver for the Cahaba Heights Domino’s Pizza.

17-year-old Corey Arrington, Jr., is charged with capital murder of 63-year-old Masaeid, who was found beaten to death at the District at the Summit apartment complex. He has also been charged for a November robbery of a Papa John’s delivery driver. According to the police, Arrington lived at the apartment complex.

Bail for the robbery charge has been set at $100,000, but it has not been set for the murder charge yet.

On the GoFundMe page set up for Masaeid’s memorial, his daughter, Jordan Hosey, posted an update in response to the arrest. She expressed her gratitude to the Birmingham police and her sorrow for Arrington and his mother.

“We have a gratified sense of peace tonight. I am so thankful he is off the streets and where he deserves to be. I can finally rest peacefully,” Hosey said.

Since the online fundraiser was started on Dec. 22, it has raised $81,611. On Monday, the Cahaba Heights Domino’s gave 100 percent of its sales proceeds to Masaeid’s family and raised $10,000 for the family. People were waiting in line for around 2 hours just to order a pizza, and the store saw its highest sales since it opened in 1995. Masaeid had been a delivery driver for the store for 15 years.
