The number of food trucks in the greater Birmingham area has been growing in last three years, and a few now call Vestavia Hills home. Whether it is a longtime establishment that started a truck as a new adventure, or a mobile restaurant, Vestavia’s food trucks are on the road and ready to be enjoyed as the warm weather continues.

Snapper Grabbers Coastal Kitchen

Snapper Grabbers Seafood Market launched its food truck last November, and after a brief break for the holidays, the truck has been roaming the streets of Birmingham full-time.

Food: Seasonal menu of seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, as well as farm-raised Alabama catfish.

Customer favorite: Baja seasoned shrimp tacos with fresh pico de gallo and jalapeno crema.

Frequent stops: UAB, local farmers markets, local breweries and private catering events.

Neals on Wheels is What “U” Want

What started in the back of owner Cornelius Bolling’s pickup truck has turned into a full food truck operation. The 3-year-old family-run business offers what Bolling’s wife, Vicky, calls “handmade, homemade comfort food,” almost completely made from scratch.

Food: Ribs, barbecue pulled pork and chicken, burgers, hot-dogs, wings and sides.

Customer favorite: Pulled pork or the bacon cheeseburger.

Frequent stops: Local churches, corporate offices and parks, as well as private catering events and order-ahead holiday meals.

Doodles Homemade Sorbets and Ices

Doodles Homemade Sorbets and Ices has been a Cahaba Heights staple for 20 years, and has taken its old white truck to events. Last September, Doodles acquired two new pink trucks, and event coordinator Jenni Champion said they are hoping to continue to expand into more typical food truck events.

Food: Sorbets, “It’s lighter than ice cream,” Champion said, and classic Italian ices.

Customer favorites: Cookies and cream, strawberry, lemon and cotton candy.

Frequent stops: Farmers markets, breweries, food truck rallies, festivals and community events.

How to find them: Look for the pink truck. Champion said they hope to have schedules soon.

The Heavenly Donut Company

People drive from all over Birmingham for a doughnut from The Heavenly Donut Company, but owner Brock Beiersdoerfer said he and his wife and co-owner, Kimberley, wanted to be able to bring their selection to even more people. Heavenly Donut got its first truck in March 2015, and recently acquired a second addition. “It’s just a way for us to reach new customers, and just share the doughnuts with more of Birmingham,” Brock Beiersdoerfer said.

Food: Heavenly Donut’s top 10 flavors, made fresh daily.

Customer favorites: Glazed and chocolate-glazed, staples Kimberly Beiersdoerfer said customers always come back to.

Frequent stops: Farmers markets, neighborhoods, corporate offices and private events.
