Cahaba Heights will see at least one new food option in the area when the 43 Seventeen development is completed in early 2017.

Hydinger Stewart & Chew Commercial Properties announced Monday that its first tenant for the 43 Seventeen development will be Baha Burgers, a fast-casual burger and sandwich restaurant with a surf’s-up twist.

This will be the second Baha Burgers in the area, the other located in Hoover.

Sorrell Chew, one of the partners of the company, said they hope to see construction begin on the project in the next few months.

The 12,000-square-foot development will hold a mix of tenants that the company’s announcement says they hope will be a “mix that will help foster and strengthen the Cahaba Heights community feel.”

Baha Burger is locally owned and operated, with a variety of burgers, sandwiches and salads on the menu.

With the improvements to Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights and other area projects as well as the 43 Seventeen development, Chew said he thinks the growth will be good for Cahaba Heights.

“I think all these things together are going to be a great enhancement to the community,” Chew said. He added that he hopes bringing family-friendly tenants like Baha Burger to 43 Seventeen will bring the community back together after the tension that surfaced during the debate last fall over a proposed apartment aspect of the development.

Chew also said he and the company would be happy to hear suggestions for other tenants as the project moves forward.

“We’re excited to be involved with this project in Vestavia,” he said.
