Eleven years ago, Karol Leggett started Kidz Closet and More, a consignment store off of U.S. 31 in Vestavia which offered clothing and other items for residents, as well as The Vestavia Store, which specialized in Vestavia apparel.

But after evaluating the store’s finances, Leggett said she made the decision to close the store in August.

“It’s sad that I’m having to disappoint customers that love the store,” Leggett said.

Patrons often came to the store to have items monogrammed or to get clothes for the upcoming school year but, as more and more mothers, the store’s main consumers, went back to work, Leggett said it became harder to keep thestore open.

“Owning your own business is a stressful thing,” Leggett said.

The store maintained a presence in the shopping center just north of the Vestavia City Center, but Leggett said her fondest memories in the store were building relationships with the customers and seeing children who came to the store through the years grow up.

While the store has closed its doors, The Vestavia Store will be offered online at thevestaviastore.com, and Leggett said both Liberty Park Pharmacy and Cahaba Heights Pharmacy will offer some of the Vestavia apparel, beginning, along with the website, in September.

Leggett thanked the community for their years of support, and encouraged everyone to shop local often in order to support businesses like Kidz Closet.
