Construction continues on Rocky Ridge, I-59/I-22, I-65

Nothing is more frustrating than an unexpected traffic jam. (Except maybe getting caught in traffic while every radio station is on commercial break.) Here’s an update on road construction that may affect your commute:

  • Work to repave Rocky Ridge Road in Vestavia Hills will continue. Construction will begin 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday and result in temporary lane closures. The repaving will take four to five weeks to complete.
  • Beaumont Drive in Vestavia Hills will be closed the through traffic as workers replace drainage pipes under the roadway near 231/232 Beaumont Drive. The road should reopen Friday, July 22. Drivers are suggested to detour to Sheridan Lane or Monterey Place as an alternate route.
  • Alagasco will be replacing gas lines throughout Homewood.
  • Workers will be performing asphalt milling and restriping on I-59/20 southbound between 15th Street and US 78 (Arkadelphia Road) from Wednesday, July 13 to Friday, July 22. Work will only take place at night or on weekends, but one or two inside lanes may be closed.
